Stacey Dooley: Kevin Clifton reveals Strictly star helped him ‘fall in love again’

Stacey Dooley’s dance partner Kevin Clifton, 36, has revealed he fell in love with Strictly Come Dancing “all over again” this year.

The BBC professional said he “really enjoyed” filming this series with 31-year-old journalist, Stacey.

Speaking to press including Express.co.uk at the Strictly Come Dancing press conference, the ballroom star said: “I’ve sort of fallen in love with dance.

“And fallen in love with Strictly all over again. I’ve really, really enjoyed this series.”

Admitting he wanted to be paired with Stacey on the show, he added: “I really was hoping to get Stacey as my partner at the beginning because I was a super fan of her documentaries.

“So when she was announced on the show I thought please, please!”

He continued: “I thought she’d be nice and everything, but thought she’d be quite serious because of the way she is on her documentaries.

“And then it turns out like once we got in the training room she’s really hyper a lot of the time.”

Kevin went on to lovingly describe her as “a massive idiot,” before gushing about his experience on the series this year.

“We’ve just had a great time, I’ve smiled so much and I think I said it on the results show last week, as if I could love it any more.”

The performer and his celebrity partner Stacey will compete in the Strictly Come Dancing final this weekend for a chance to lift the Glitterball trophy.

However, Kevin, who has placed second four times in the past five series he has been on Strictly, admitted winning the competition is not the most important thing.

“The winning isn’t the most important thing, but of course I am speaking from someone who seems to be runner up every single year,” he joked.

Kevin and Stacey are set to compete against fellow celebrities Ashley Roberts, Stacey Dooley, Faye Tozer and Joe Sugg tonight.

Each finalist will perform three dance routines for judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussell.

Kevin and Stacey will have to work hard to get a perfect score from Craig, 53, as the West End performer was critical of them last week.

Craig gave the couple an eight for their Viennese Waltz and a nine for the Charleston last Saturday.

During an appearance on It Takes Two, Kevin said: “He gave us a nine for the Charleston as well because we missed one swivel on the left foot! He just doesn’t want to do it for us.

“I looked back on [the dance] and thought it was a beautiful Viennese Waltz, and I thought you danced it amazingly.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2018 final airs tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One.
