
It is believed at least seven people were struck as it mounted the kerb. The driver stayed on the scene and criminality is not suspected. The vehicle hit the pedestrians on Canal Street in the Chinatown area of Manhattan, a tourist hotspot.
Several of those injured are believed to be in a serious condition.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the crash was unintentional and the driver had been trying to parallel park, but hit the wrong pedal.
Emergency services are on the scene.
The crash took place at 6:47pm local time (11.47pm GMT).

This incident comes just weeks after 20 people were killed in a limousine crash in upstate New York.
It was the nation’s deadliest transportation accident in nearly a decade.
At least two of the injured victims are in a critical condition.
Two others had injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.
The driver was an elderly man, according to a New York Times reporter.
