Arsenal transfer news: Gunners turn to an unlikely source to start January spending spree

Arsenal are said to want to strengthen in multiple areas when the transfer window reopens in January.

Unai Emery is set to be given cash to spend and The Sun claim they are eyeing up the English second tier.

On their wish-list is Brentford defender Ezri Konsa with the club ready to bid £15million.

The 21-year-old has only been playing in the Championship a matter of months after joining from Charlton £2.85million in June.

But that hasn’t stopped Arsenal extensively scouting him and they believe he has what it takes to cut it in the Premier League.

Konsa was in the England squad which won the Under-20 World Cup in June last year and helped the Under-21s win the Toulon Tournament in June.

The youngster was born in London and is said to be keen to move to the Gunners – if the option arrives.

Interest in Konsa is an indication that Arsenal’s transfer policy is beginning to change.

There is a new scouting regime at the club and they have been tasked with identifying the best young English players with Konsa one of them.

But he is not the only Brentford star attracting interest from clubs in the top tier.

The Sun add that striker Neal Maupay and centre-back Chris Mepham are also both wanted by Premier League sides.

Konsa has two-and-a-half years left on his current Bees deal.
