Tiger Woods caddie: Who is Joe LaCava? Parking lot meeting with Phil Mickelson REVEALED

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are battling it out in The Match today.

Woods vs Mickelson is the main event in the States tonight as the pair play off for £7m.

The winner of their match play event in Las Vegas goes home with the cash – while the loser takes home nothing.

But who is Woods’ caddie Joe LaCava?

LaCava is no stranger to the top-ranked golf, having been on the PGA Tour for years.

He started out as Fred Couples’ caddie in the 1990s and also accompanied Dustin Johnson for a while.

He joined up with in 2011 – just before the player endured his acrimonious pause from golf.

Yet LaCava stayed with the American and remains his key ally out on the fairway.

LaCava, from Connecticut, is an experienced caddy and knows how to get the best out of Woods.

He was there as the 14-time major champion ended a barren title run with his 80th PGA crown this year.

And LaCava has had dealings wth Mickelson before.

Mickelson meeting

Last year at the Masters, the pair played a practice round together at Augusta.

And LaCava revealed he set the meeting up.

“About noon on Monday, I was waiting for Tiger to get there and I saw Phil in the parking lot because the past champions have a different parking lot,” LaCava said.

“So I saw Phil and he mentioned to me that he didn’t have anyone the next two days and if Tiger’s looking, he’s interested.

“So I pass it along to Tiger because I guess they got tighter at the Presidents Cup this past year, so they’re not like, they [couldn’t] stand each other at one time, but now, they’re OK.

“And they got to know each other and they’re OK right now.”
