Carol Kirkwood opened up about being branded a “sex symbol”, saying she did not see herself as “sexy” at all.
The 56-year-old, who is often inundated with raunchy messages from fans, dismissed the title and liken herself to the “girl-next-door”.
She told Express.co.uk in 2016: “Sex symbol makes me laugh, I couldn’t be further from a sex symbol if I tried.
“I think I’m more just your girl-next-door rather than anything else. If anyone says that, bless them.”
Her fans also compliment her on her glamorous sense of style, however the TV star admitted not a lot of thought goes into what she wears each morning.
“I’ve got more to worry about than that,” she insisted. “I get up at quarter to three, so it’s a quick cup of tea, shower and off to work.”
The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant added: “My main thoughts are ‘What colour did I wear yesterday? What neckline was it?”
Sharing her tips for looking fresh at such an early hour every day, Carol explained: “In the mornings I have my music on.
“A bit of Bryan Adams my favourite, [I like] singing along. I love music, that’s my passion, it can lift your mood.
“That’s why I’m so perky in the mornings! Plus, I love my job and I’m working with my friends, so what’s not to be perky about?”
The TV personality first joined the BBC as a production secretary, answering telephone enquires, shortly after graduating from a college in Edinburgh.
She later went on to present short slots on BBC Radio Scotland and then on BBC Radio 2, as well as BBC Radio 4.
But when she married Jimmy Kirkwood, who she has since divorced, in 1990 she left the corporation, before rejoining in 1993.
When she returned to the BBC she was sent to be trained at the Met Office, where she learned to be a meteorologist.
She began her weather presenting career in 1998 and is now one of the main weather reporters on BBC Breakfast.
Carol has been awarded weather presenter of the year nine times, but sadly her father never got to see her achieve such success.
“He would have been very proud,” she told Radio Time earlier this year.
“But when I was a production secretary he saw my name go up in the credits once on a programme called Beat the Teacher and he was well chuffed!”
As well as her work on BBC Breakfast, Carol has had appearances on The One Show, Victoria Derbyshire and Hollyoaks.
