Paradise fire map: California Camp fire leaves town in RUINS – schools, hospitals evacuate

California wildfire season should now be approaching their conclusion, as Autumn yields the general end point for the driest time of year.

Less Sun and more rain should normally see any potential blazes put out before they get the chance to rise.

However, a number of wildfires are undergoing one final push into local towns and cities.

One particular wildfire, the Paradise fire, has been particularly devastating.

The Paradise fire is known as the Camp fire in California, and has now raged across 31 miles (20,000 acres) of the state.

At the moment the fire is in Butte county, powering through Paradise City and under watch from the Paradise Police Department.

In total, the number of people tackling the flames number 2,289, using engines, helicopters, water and bulldozers.

There is no listed containment percentage for the wildfire just yet.

There are evacuation orders for Paradise, Magalia, Concow, Butte Creek Canyon and Butte Valley.

Butte county has opened a number of shelters to accommodate people who have been uprooted by the blaze.

These shelters are currently available in Church of the Nazarene, 2238 Monte Vista Ave, Oroville, CA 95966 Butte County Fairgrounds, 199 E Hazel St, Gridley.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire protection – known as CAL Fire – said: “Firefighters continue to be challenged with extreme fire and weather conditions including strong winds and with long range spotting.”

“Due to the fluid and rapidly changing conditions, residents are urged to stay updated through official sources for changes to evacuations and road closures.”

Spokesman for CAL Fire Scott Maclean opened up on the devastation of Paradise City.

He said: “The town is devastated, everything is destroyed.

“There’s nothing much left standing.

“This fire moved so fast and grew so fast a lot of people got caught by it.”

County officials have pinpointed the origin of the blaze just south of the city of Simi Valley.

Paradise is a small city in California, and has limited escape routes which has made leaving difficult.

Queues to leave the city have resulted in traffic jams and gridlock, which has led people to leave cars abandoned on roads as they rush to safety.

Now the fire is rapidly advancing through the city of Chico, and has forced thousands to flee.

Rescuers used a bulldozer to push abandoned cars out the way to reach Feather River Hospital and evacuate patients as flames engulfed the building, Butte County Supervisor Doug Teeter told reporters.

The hospital was totally destroyed, Mike Mangas, a spokesman for operator Dignity Health, told Action News Now.
