Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho and Anthony Martial both speak out on relationship and form

Manchester United manager Mourinho has had his issues with Martial ever since he swaggered into town to replace Louis van Gaal two years ago.

The France international, however, appears a man reborn. Back in the side, he was outstanding against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Manchester United star scored twice at Stamford Bridge as Mourinho’s men earned a crucial point.

And, speaking after the game, Mourinho revealed the secret to the player’s improvement.

“Anthony Martial is improving, he is doing different things than before,” Jose Mourinho said.

“He is a more complete player than before but he needs to improve.

“He has a huge talent and he wants it, which is a good thing. The team as a team was really good.

“A fantastic match, a very undeserved result for us but that is football.

“We were the best team, even in the first half when we were losing. We were in control, tactically. The result is really unfair for us.”

Martial, meanwhile, has silenced rumours of a rift.

The United star was fined by Mourinho for going AWOL during their pre-season tour of Los Angeles.

And he was also accused of failing to put in the graft following their 3-1 defeat to West Ham last month.

But Martial has insisted there has never been an issue.

“Come on – things were not tense between us to begin with!” he told reporters.

“We have a player-coach relationship and I hope that we will continue like that and bring Manchester United as much as possible.”

Martial could feature when United face Juventus on Tuesday (8pm).
