Man Utd lead Angel Di Maria transfer race with Chelsea and Liverpool also in running

Manchester United signed Di Maria from Real Madrid in 2014 but, after a solitary season in English football, the Argentina international quit for PSG.

Fast-forward three years, however, and the 30-year-old is facing an uncertain future at the Parc des Princes.

The Manchester United flop wants a bumper new deal over in Ligue 1, asking for wages in the region of £200,000 a week.

And a report from the Mirror claims the veteran is also sounding out English clubs over a potential transfer.

Coral, consequently, have now made United the favourites to sign him.

Di Maria left the club under a cloud in 2015, refusing to board their plane for their pre-season tour of America that year.

He was then labelled a ‘traitor’ by social media users – something that prompted him to write an open letter explaining his decision to fans.

United boss Jose Mourinho has expressed regret at seeing Di Maria, who he managed at Real Madrid, leave the club.

But Coral have the Red Devils as 2-1 favourites to secure the player’s signature.

Chelsea have been made available at 4-1, with Liverpool 6-1.

Real Madrid, who sold him to United in 2014, are next-best at 8-1 – the same as Manchester City.

And Tottenham are outsiders at 12-1.

“Angel Di Maria did not last very long at Manchester United when he moved there from Real Madrid in 2014,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“However, with his contract on his way down at PSG, punters are backing the winger to have a second spell at Old Trafford.”

Should Di Maria return, though, he will have some apologising to do.

Speaking at the time of his United exit, club legend Rio Ferdinand labelled him a ‘failure’.

“He will now always have on his CV that he was a failure at Man United,” he said.

“As a professional, I wouldn’t want something like that on my record.

“If I could rectify it by staying and trying to prove myself, I would have done that.”
