Conor McGregor: Khabib makes rematch demand to UFC chiefs after brawl

UFC 229 ended in chaos on Saturday evening after the Dagestan native retained his title and continued his unbeaten streak.

Nurmagomedov forced McGregor to submit in the fourth round before jumping out of the Octagon to start a brawl in the crowd with Dillon Danis.

Meanwhile, McGregor was attacked in the ring by two of Nurmagomedov’s team-mates – Zubaira Tukhugov and Islam Makhachev.

But that hasn’t deterred the Irishman, who has already asked for a rematch on social media since his defeat.

However, Nurmagomedov’s other team-mate Luke Rockhold claims a second fight will only materialise if UFC chiefs pay his friend ‘the biggest pay cheque in MMA history’.

“If the people are going to buy into a rematch, they’re going to have to pay Khabib,” Rockhold said on Ariel Helwani’s ESPN show.

“Probably the biggest pay cheque in the history of MMA.

“I’ve talked with Khabib.

“You want a rematch, Khabib will demand a record number.”

Khabib returned to the ring after his altercation in the crowd but UFC President Dana White refused to hand the 30-year-old his belt.

And Rockhold has admitted he had to calm Nurmagomedov down after his post-fight antics.

“Khabib came back in the cage and I grabbed him, tried to calm him down and get the situation under control,” he added.

“I was just trying to bring him back down to earth and make him realise he’s the champ, baddest man on the planet.

“[I said] ‘You’re the f***ing man so just relax, enjoy the moment.’”

McGregor took to Twitter in recent days, posting: “Good knock. Looking forward to the rematch.”

But White recently cast doubt over a potential rematch.

“We have to see what happens with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (before discussing a rematch),” White told MMAjunkie at the UFC 229 press conference.

“Not just the commission – there’s going to be fines and God knows what else.

“Can these guys get visas and get back in the country?

“And I mean Khabib. We’ll see how this thing plans out.

“I’ve been doing this for 18 years and on the biggest night ever, I couldn’t be more disappointed.

“You know me, I’m always mad at everything.

“I’m not even mad. I’m just disappointed.”
