Arsenal news: Gunners will regret THIS deal as amid Aaron Ramsey contract issue – Parlour

That is according to Arsenal legend Ray Parlour.

Ozil was awarded a massive contract extension in February, tying him to the club until 2021.

It is reported that the German playmaker earns £300,000-a-week on his current deal.

Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey and his representatives are trying to negotiate a new contract with his current one expiring at the end of the season.

It is reported that Ramsey currently earns a weekly wage of £110,000, but the Welshman is pushing for a substantial pay rise, which Arsenal are reluctant to meet.

Former Gunners midfielder Parlour believes the club has put themselves in a treacherous position by rewarding Ozil such a generous deal.

“It’s down to money isn’t it,” Parlour told talkSPORT while speaking about Ramsey’s contract impasse.

“Arsenal gave that big contract to Ozil and Aaron’s representatives are saying they want the same.

“[They’re saying] that Aaron influences games as much as Ozil does, he’s in the same situation with one year left on his contract and they want to be paid the same.

“Arsenal might have made a mistake by giving Ozil that much money and they might regret it, but it’s happened now, they’ve got to get on with it. But they don’t want to do the same again.”

Ramsey has featured in every Premier League game this season, scoring one goal and registering three assists.

The midfielder made a particularly emphatic impact on Sunday against Fulham, scoring within a minute of coming on.

Ozil has scored three in his last five in all competitions, but adapted to Unai Emery’s style slowly.

Ramsey has been at Arsenal since 2008, but Parlour – who spent 12 years at the club – thinks the notion of riches may lure him away.

“Money is an awful thing sometimes because Aaron has been a great servant to the club and I would hate to see him go,” Parlour added.

“He always pops up with the goals, at times he can be a bit more efficient with the ball and keep it simple, but he is a very talented player.

“But it’s a situation where both sides can be stubborn.”
