Nokia 7.1 release date, UK price, full specs and why it offers ultimate Android experience

Nokia is back with a device aimed at bringing flagship specs on relatively low budget.

The Nokia 7.1 was unveiled last night and packs a hefty punch considering its price starts at just €319 (£280).

For your money, you’ll find a phone that includes a Full HD+ 5.84-inch PureDisplay which is fully compatible with HDR content.

HMD Global, the firm behind the Nokia smartphone relaunch, says this display can show content with higher contrast and great clarity.

Nokia is also following the current trend by pushing the screen to the very edges of the device and adding a small notch to house the front-facing camera and speaker.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

Under the hood of the Nokia 7.1 you’ll find a Qualcomm 636 processor which should offer enough power for the average user.

It’s also been optimised for content consumption which should mean you can watch videos and play games for longer without the battery running flat.

When the inevitable does happen, the Nokia 7.1 features USB type-C with fast charging which can deliver up to 50 percent of your battery back in 30 minutes.

For photography fans, there’s a highly sensitive dual-lens ZEISS Optics camera with two phase detection on the rear of the phone.

This double camera enables fast and accurate autofocus in both bright and low light conditions and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) technology reduces camera shake.

If you love a selfie the Nokia 7.1 has an AI enhanced front-facing camera which introduces facial recognition to deploy animated 3D personas, masks and filters.

Along with updated camera hardware, there’s a new camera UI which gives better control of white balance, ISO, aperture and shutter speed using the Pro Camera Mode.

One area where these latest Nokia’s continue to impress is their close relationship with the Android operating system.

The Nokia 7.1 now joins the comprehensive line-up of Nokia smartphones in the Android One family, delivering a high-quality software experience endorsed by Google.

The Nokia 7.1 will receive three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates, as guaranteed in the Android One programme.

In addition, Google Play protect scans all the apps on the store and on your phone to keep it safe from malware.

Speaking about the Nokia 7.1 launch Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global said: “Almost two thirds of videos around the world are viewed on mobile which is why we’ve introduced our PureDisplay screen technology, to give everyone a premium viewing experience on a smartphone.

“The Nokia 7.1 even offers real-time SDR to HDR conversion, meaning you can experience HDR quality entertainment, event when your content is not.

“We are excited to deliver a unique, premium experience in collaboration with best in class partners to deliver a standout smartphone at great value.”

The Nokia 7.1 comes in Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel and is available in selected markets available from October in two RAM/ROM variants – 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB.

The global average retail price will be €319 for the 3GB/32GB and €349 for the 4GB/64GB.
