Tiger Woods holds back TEARS in emotional interview after winning Tour Championship

Tiger Woods clinched the Tour Championship with an 11-under finish – his first victory since August 2013.

He was mobbed by spectators as he strolled down the fairway on the final hole.

“I was having a hard time not crying on that last hole,” Woods said.

“After Rory (McIlroy) tapped in I started tearing up a little bit.

“I just can’t believe I’ve pulled this off. It’s been tough.”

has endured a long road back to the top of the PGA ranks after a string of injuries and bad form over the past five years.

He was ranked 1,199 in the world less than a year ago after undergoing spinal fusion surgery.

He holed out for par on the final hole to secure a round of 71 and stood with his arms high, celebrating the victory.

“I’ve had it not so easy the last couple of years and worked my way back and couldn’t have done it without the help of everyone around me,” he said.

“Some of the players I saw after on the 18th green knew what I was struggling with and it was really special to see them there.

“It’s just hard to believe I’ve won the Tour Championship.”

The title takes Woods’ PGA tally to 80 in his career, with only American Sam Snead ahead of him.

The 42-year-old finished two shots clear of Billy Horschel and said: “I had to suck it up and hit some shots. Once I got the ball on the green, it was done. I could handle it from there.

“It was just a grind out there.

“I loved every bit of it, the fight, the grind and the tough conditions.

“At the beginning of the year, it was a tall order but as the year progressed and I proved I could play, I knew I could do it again.”
