BREAKING: Police respond to New York MASS shooting – child amongst victims

According to local media multiple children are amongst the victims.

Gunfire broke out near Kirk Park in Syracuse at about 9pm local time.

Police responded to the scene, on the 1300 block of Midland Avenue, shortly afterwards.

A number of individuals were hit and wounded.

There are currently no reports of any fatalities.

According to local media they had gathered to celebrate the life of a deceased relative.

A police spokesman said: “Upon arrival officers observed a large crowd of people and located several injured persons suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

“Officers at the scene requested additional ambulances and officers responded.”

“Specific information, including ages, the number of people injured and the severity of their injuries will be released when it becomes available.”

The injured have been taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident Syracuse Police say a teenage was shot shortly before 10pm local time just blocks away from the mass shooting location.

It is not known whether the two shootings are related.

Brian Smith, a reporter for Spectrum News on the ground at the site of the second shooting, tweeted: “Police presence still on the scene.

“I spoke to a neighbour who says it was her 14-year-old cousin who was shot.

“She also says shootings are a familiar sight in this neighbourhood.”

It is thought several ambulances were seen leaving the scene with a police escort at around 9.15pm local time.

It is reported at least 10 shots were fired.

Syracuse is located around 250 miles northwest of New York City in New York State.
