He left the show two years later, but that didn’t stop him racking up a staggering net worth of $11 million (£8.5 million), according to NetWorthPost.org.

After leaving Eastenders, Charles landed a role in Casualty and has participated in And They’re Off! in aid of Sport Relief.

Last month he was announced as the fourteenth celebrity to join Strictly Come Dancing 2018.

After being announced, he said: “It truly is a pleasure to be a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, to be associated with a show that has such a huge following excites and scares me in equal measure!

“Dancing on Strictly is going to be quite a challenge but life’s all about testing yourself so there’s lots to look forward to, let the games begin.”

Talking about the show, Charles told the BBC: “Some of the costumes certainly do not leave much to the imagination, but they mostly look good I feel.

“I’ll definitely have to do more sit-ups though, just to fit in them!”
