Meghan Markle has now been married to Prince Harry for almost four months. But how did the royal first woo his wife?
He bought her a work of art as a romantic present in the first months of their courtship, it has been reported.
The painting, by an anonymous artist who goes by the pseudonym Van Donna, is a two-sided canvas, also known as a diptych.
It features a black and white outline of a couple holding hands on one side.
The other side features the words “Everybody needs somebody to love” in red, calligraphic handwriting – which is especially appropriate given Meghan’s love of calligraphy.

Prince Harry made the “stealth” purchase from the Walton Fine Arts gallery in Kensington, London, according to a local art dealer speaking to PEOPLE magazine.
“Harry is one of the regulars in the area and regularly goes into the shops and galleries with his bodyguard, kind of in stealth mode,” said the source.
“He was in the gallery for a little while and liked a few things, then settled on the Van Donna. He said he was looking for something for ‘an important person.’
“It was literally just before anyone heard about Meghan — literally just days before it was announced he was going out with her.”
The purchase was previously confirmed back in July 2017 with a subtle tweet from Van Donna’s account.
She wrote: “OMG! So excited that Harry has acquired my paintings for his collection! Yay!!!”
However, the significance of this tweet has only just been highlighted by the source’s account.
This is not the first present Prince Harry purchased before the pair were married.
He reportedly planned to buy her a £31,000 Mini for her 36th birthday last year, according to the Daily Star.
Last month, the royals were reportedly stunned when Prince Harry skipped a royal tradition for Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry is said to have avoided going on a grouse hunt while the pair visited Balmoral Castle this summer.
It is believed Meghan and Harry joined other royals at the castle over the August bank holiday weekend.
Kate Middleton, 36, and Prince William, 36, were also there, along with their children, according to Emily Andrews, royal correspondent at The Sun.
However, judging by a tweet from Emily, it would seem Harry did not participate in a grouse hunt with his brother and eldest nephew, Prince George, 5, over this period.
Emily tweeted: “Kate, William, George, Charlotte & Louis are spending this weekend at Balmoral with HM. George was taken to his first grouse shoot on Friday by Kate, with the Queen, Charles, Edward, Sophie, Louise & James, Anne, Zara & Mike Tindall joining for lunch.”
