It’s usually nothing to worry about and should get better within a few weeks or months.
But making some small dietary changes could help to get rid of the painful condition.
Eating anti-inflammatory foods is a great way to reduce back pain at home. One of the best herbs to add to your dinner for back pain is basil, it’s been claimed.
Back pain could be caused by inflammation, and eating anti-inflammatory foods may help to relieve signs of the condition.

Basil contains a number of essential oils that act as natural anti-inflammatories, according to researchers from the University of Life Sciences, in Poland.
Beta-caryophyllene is one of the best essential oils in basil for reducing inflammation, added physician Dr Surbhi Prapanna.
“Basil contains the wide range of essential oils especially Beta-caryophyllene, eugenol and linalool,” she said.
“Basil actively inhibits the same enzyme that anti-inflammatory drugs do and soothes the swelling and inflammation.
“It has been observed that basil reduces swelling and inflammation in arthritic patients by about 73 per cent in less than 24 hours.”
Back pain could also be prevented by eating more ginger, it’s been claimed.
Ginger has anti-inflammation properties that could help to get rid of lower backache, according to US-based The Spine Institute.
Ginger oil, ginger juice, or ginger supplements could all be used to prevent back pain, it said.
“Considered safe in moderation for people living with persistent back pain, ginger has a long history of health benefits,” said the institute.
“This popular herb, noted for its strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, can be chewed raw, ground into various foods and beverages, sprinkled on favourite recipes, or consumed in supplement form.”
Lower back pain is the most common type of back pain in the UK, said the NHS.
For short-term relief from backache, patients could try using anti-inflammatory painkillers, it said.
Alternatively, try using hot or cold compression packs. A bag of frozen peas works just as well.
Speak to a GP if you have back pain and a numbness around the genitals.
A swelling in the back, difficulty passing urine, or chest pain should also been seen by a doctor if it’s accompanied by back pain.
