Tom Kerridge weight loss: TV chef reveals the 10 foods that helped him lose 12 stone

Tom Kerridge, 44, is a Michelin-starred chef, having worked in the world of food for over 27 years.

He is known for his world-class restaurants, pubs and appearances on UK television, but was also once known for being overweight.

The chef once weighed in at a staggering 30 stone, realising at the age of 40 that he was unhappy with his weight, and deciding to turn his life around.

Tom, who stands at 6’3″, now weighs a healthy 18 stone, but how did he do it?

The 44-year-old chef contributes his former overweight frame to drinking too much and eating too much rubbish, deciding to cut out booze and overhaul his diet.

His journey started on his 40th birthday when he decided to take measures to improve his health.

“Say we live to 80. Well, I thought, I’m halfway there,” he told the Sunday Times. “And then, I thought … I’m not going to get there. If I’m like this, I’m not going to make it.”

Following his revelation, Tom shared that he now follows the lesser-known “dopamine diet” in order to keep his weight in check.

Dopamine is known as the happiness hormone, a chemical that is released from the brain when we experience pleasure.

The body also creates the hormone when we eat foods that are rich in the amino acid called tyrosine, such as dairy products, eggs, oily fish, fruit and vegetables.

Helping his body to create more dopamine, Tom eats certain foods as much as he can, and also tried to stay below 90g of carbohydrate a day.

In an interview with Bloomsbury Publishing, Tom revealed his favourite “dopamine-rich” foods, that helped him shed 12 stone and maintain his new slimmed-down physique.

Foods include vegetables, hot sauce, tinned beans, herbs and spices, cream alternatives, cornflour, sweeteners, spray oil, stock cubes and eggs.

Tom uses hot sauce, herbs, cream alternatives and stock cubes to add extra flavour or a creamy texture to his low-carb, high-protein meals.

On top of changing the way he eats and views food, the chef also tries to do one particular exercise every day.

“My alarm wakes me up at 6.15 every morning and I go to the swimming pool at a hotel up the road,” he told The Telegraph.

“On a busy day I swim a kilometre, on a relaxed one I’ll do a mile.”

Another British celebrity who has lost a huge amount of weight recently is comedian Johnny Vegas.

The Liverpudlian TV star is famous for his larger-than-life personality but was also known for his large frame.

However, Johnny has stunned fans by losing an impressive amount of weight in the last few months, documenting his journey and diet plan on his social media channels.
