Google Home takes aim at Amazon Echo as smart speaker slashed to lowest ever price

If there’s one gadget that appears to have caught the imagination of the public it’s smart speakers.

These intelligent music makers have taken the world by storm with the Echo and Google Home becoming some of the biggest selling gadgets of the year.

Now it seems the smart speaker war is hotting up even further with announcing a major price cut to its Google Home and Google Home Mini devices.

This drop means you can currently grab the larger speaker for just £99 (saving £30) and the Mini version for £39 (saving £10).

Both are available at this price until September 4 with stores including Currys PC World, John Lewis and Argos all applying the discount

These price cuts now mean Google’s bigger Home speaker is only slightly more expensive than Amazon’s £89 Echo offering.

However, the Google Home Mini is now £10 cheaper than the smaller Echo Dot.

Both Google’s and Amazon’s devices offer a swathe of features including the ability to turn on lights, find weather reports, make shopping lists and listen to music via voice search.

You can also set reminders, alerts, timers and find out local travel issues by simply asking the speakers for help.

Amazon recently announced a big update for its smart speaker which includes a new equalizer feature.

This upgrade will allow users to customise the way audio sounds from the Echo.

The news of this latest price crash comes as the smart speaker competition continues to gain pace.

Apple finally launched its HomePod at the beginning of the year which offers Siri support and superior sound quality.

Samsung is also joining the party with its own intelligent device called the Galaxy Home.

This speaker was announced last week with the Korean firm boasting that it is able to intuitively move a wave of sound directly toward you when you ask it to.

So no matter where you are in the room, you’ll find yourself immersed in sound.

Samsung is yet to announce a UK release date or price for its Home speaker but we’ll update this article when a launch is officially revealed.
