Fallout 76 release and beta launch on PS4, Xbox and PC missing key feature

Bethesda reaffirmed the Fallout 76 news this month, which may come as a surprising development to fans.

The games publisher recently made strong comments about another upcoming console launch that they believe needs crossplay with every device.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends is coming to multiple platforms, and Bethesda believes it’s critical that players can mingle and find games with all players.

The TES Legends port is expected later this year for PS4 and Xbox One, with Bethesda raising concerns about crossplay being needed for it to work.

And it’s now been confirmed that another game from the publisher will not have full crossplay support when it launches later this year.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines has revealed Fallout 76 will not support cross-play with any devices at launch, which means this will also affect the Fallout beta in October.

“We have said 76 will not feature Crossplay for any platforms. There are a number of reasons for this,” Hines told a fan on Twitter.

So while fans may have suspected that PS4 players would be left out again, it appears Bethesda has no plans for separate crossplay support among the other platforms.

Hines recently spoke more on the subject of crossplay for both Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Legends, telling Eurogamer: “Fallout 76, sure: it would be nice if I could play on my Xbox and my kid is playing on his PC, and we can play together, but if we can’t, OK.

“There’s lots of games – I play Overwatch on Xbox, and he plays on PC separately and has a whole separate account. It’s not critical.

“But for Legends it’s absolutely critical,” he said, “both cross-play, which is how Legends works right now on every device – you’re playing against somebody who could be on any device – and, more importantly, cross-platform progression, which means no matter what you do on any platform, you load up the game and so long as you’re logged in, here is all your progression, here is everything you had, everything you were doing.”

Bethesda recently revealed more on the game during Quakecon, and months before the big Fallout 76 beta is released on PS4, Xbox and PC.

However, it’s also possible that a player can be killed while not wanting to engage in full combat.

But according to Bethesda, this griefing will not lead to any kind of reward, but will instead see them labelled a wanted murderer.

It sounds a little like going rogue in The Division, with the player’s general location popping on the maps of those in the surrounding areas.

A bounty is placed on the murder’s head, which comes from their stash of caps.

This will likely be one of the many new systems being tried out by Bethesda during the Fallout 76 beta.

These new test sessions will give fans a chance at trying the game before it launches in November.

The bad news is that we haven’t been told about an open-beta, meaning if you want to play the game early, you have to pre-order it.

The official beta release date has been confirmed for October 2018. However, Bethesda is also planning at least one smaller test session before the main event.
