Owners of the original Google Pixel XL have noted after updating to Android 9 Pie the “rapid charging” function of the device has stopped working.
The problem was noted on the tech giant’s Issue Tracker blog by a user who claimed they had tried “multiple chargers”, including the one supplied by Google itself and had not seen success.
They wrote: “I noticed that rapid charging stopped completely. I tried multiple chargers including those that came with the Pixel XL.
“I can confirm no issue with the chargers as my wife’s Pixel XL (using Oreo) charges rapidly without issue using them.”
The user then insisted they were “not alone” in reporting the issue and linked to a thread on the XDA Developers forum.
The chain includes a number of other Pixel XL owners citing the same issue.
On its Issue Tracker blog, Google appeared to suggest users might have to wait longer than expected for a fix to the rapid charging problem.
A post from the tech giant read: “Won’t Fix (Infeasible).”
Since then, the company has insisted the matter has been “shared” with relevant teams who are investigating the matter.
The issue was first discussed by Android Police who also insisted reports of the smaller version of the original Google Pixel being affected have emerged.
It is currently unknown what has caused the “charging rapidly” message to stop appearing on first-generation Pixel devices.
Google is also yet to declare whether a fix for the problem will be arriving in the near future.
No users that have updated to Android 9 Pie on the Google Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL have prominently declared such an issue is affecting their hardware.
The Silicon Valley giant officially unveiled Android 9 Pie last week.
The software boasts a ton of new additions that radically change how Android lovers navigate their device.
