Fortnite Android: Latest Epic Games update confirms mobile beta news

Fortnite fans with the right phone can try out the popular Battle Royale game on a brand new platform.

Having already proved a major success on iOS, Epic Games decided to change things up a little with their latest port.

The Fortnite Android release has seen the game come out on a few devices at first, with Samsung getting first dibs.

The invite system is now opening up to other devices, but it appears the beta phase may last a little while.

And Epic Games today posted an update on the Fortnite Android beta, confirming that there is a significant issue affecting some devices.

According to the post online, 4GB Android devices are susceptible to bad performance problems, although the reasoning sounds pretty straightforward.

“We have seen reports that some players on 4GB Android devices are encountering an issue causing poor performance,” the message from Epic Games reads.

“This is due to multiple background applications running–leaving the device without enough memory for Fortnite. We are investigating and working on a fix!”

Fans will be hopeful that this problem will be addressed soon, although there are plenty of other things currently bugging players.

Problems are of course expected for a game that has only just launched and is still very limited to the hardware it’s available on.

While Fortnite is no longer a Samsung exclusive, there is a list of confirmed devices it will work on.

And it’s not huge at the moment, although fans are hopeful it will expand over time.

The current list includes:

  • Samsung Galaxy: S7 / S7 Edge, S8 / S8+, S9 / S9+, Note 8, Note 9, Tab S3, Tab S4
  • Google: Pixel / Pixel XL, Pixel 2 / Pixel 2 XL
  • Asus: ROG Phone, Zenfone 4 Pro, 5Z, V
  • Essential: PH-1
  • Huawei: Honor 10, Honor Play, Mate 10 / Pro, Mate RS, Nova 3, P20 / Pro, V10
  • LG: G5, G6, G7 ThinQ, V20, V30 / V30+
  • Nokia: 8
  • OnePlus: 5 / 5T, 6
  • Razer: Phone
  • Xiaomi: Blackshark, Mi 5 / 5S / 5S Plus, 6 / 6 Plus, Mi 8 / 8 Explorer / 8SE, Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2S, Mi Note 2
  • ZTE: Axon 7 / 7s, Axon M, Nubia / Z17 / Z17s, Nubia Z11

Other phones that are not currently supported but sound like they will be next in line for the Android beta treatment includes:

  • HTC: 10, U Ultra, U11 / U11+, U12+
  • Lenovo: Moto Z / Z Droid, Moto Z2 Force
  • Sony: Xperia: XZ/ XZs, XZ1, XZ2

Here’s a recent guide posted by Epic Games for those players who have been invited to the beta but are having trouble accessing key content.

“We’re aware of an issue that’s causing players on supported devices to receive an error prompting them to join a “Waiting List” to gain access to Fortnite Beta on Android,” Epic Games confirms.

“We’ve identified what’s causing this and are investigating the issue to work towards a fix.”

Current Epic Games workaround:

  • Verify you’re on a supported device.
  • Log in to Fortnite Beta on Android.
  • Receive the error that prompts you to “Get on the Waiting List.”
  • Exit the game, relaunch, and attempt to relog into your account.
  • This workaround may not immediately work, give it a little time and keep trying. The entitlement will be granted to your account after a short amount of time; this may take a few tries.
