Man Utd news: Why Paul Pogba is better than Patrick Vieira – Sky Sports pundit

That is according to Sky Sports pundit and ex-Chelsea captain Dennis Wise.

Pogba has often divided opinion since his £89million return to Manchester United from Juventus in 2016.

However, it is clear Wise is a big fan of the France World Cup winner.

Pogba only returned to United training last Monday but was surprisingly named as a starter and captain in the season opener against Leicester on Friday.

He scored from the penalty spot and impressed in a 2-1 win for the Red Devils.

Wise says Pogba has been given more responsibility by Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

And he claims he is an all-round better player than Arsenal hero Vieira.

“He’s got more responsibility and I think he’s the leader of that team and the person you’re looking up to,” Wise said of Paul Pogba.

“Whereas the young boy a couple of years ago did not have that responsibility.

“Now it’s starting to change and I think Jose is now putting the onus onto Paul Pogba to say ‘come on, give us more, we want more, because you have the ability to be the best midfield player in the world, now show us’.

“Some people can take it (responsibility) in different ways.

“I think he’s the kind of guy that can take it, I really do, he’ll take that responsibility on board, create chances and be the leader in the team.

“You look at some of his clips and the way that he plays and the way he ghosts past people and his performances, he’s got everything you could possibly want from a midfield player.

“He’s a better version of Patrick Vieira. He is.

“And you kind of think to yourself ‘but what do we want more from you?’.

“Responsibility, just taking it on board, and I think that’s what Jose wants from him and that’s what you want from someone the type of calibre of player that he is. That’s what you want.”
