Jack Whitehall faces FAN FURY after being cast as Disney’s FIRST openly gay character

The 30-year-old comedian plays Blunt’s character’s brother in the 19th century set adventure, based on the Disney theme park ride.

And according to , a source revealed he’s played a “very camp” gay man.

The insider said: “This is a huge gig for Jack and has landed him his biggest ever pay cheque.

“But, more excitingly, he is playing a gay man – one who is hugely effete, very camp and very funny.”

The source continued: “It’s a dream role.

However news of Whitehall’s casting has caused fury among some fans and actors.

Omar Sharif Jr wrote: “Really @Disney #JungleCruise ? Your first significant gay role will be played by a straight white man perpetuating stereotypes? Fail! This ship should sink.”

Ethan Harvey said: “If only there were gay actors who could play ‘camp’ as well as Jack Whitehall.”

A fan tweeted: “Straight people playing gay camp characters is offensive. Period.

“Prove me wrong and tell me about all the gay camp actors that auditioned for this role but somehow @jackwhitehall was the best at doing it so he got the job fairly. I’ll wait.”

Jungle Cruise is based on the Disneyland theme park ride of the same name.

The ride sees fans take a riverboat ride through a dangerous jungle.

Disney are hoping the film will spark a new franchise like Pirates of Caribbean, which was also based on one of their theme park boat rides.

Jungle Cruise is set for release in October 2019.
