PGA Tour Suspends Wesley Bryan; Phil Mickelson Urges DOJ Intervention
The PGA Tour has reportedly suspended professional golfer Wesley Bryan after he participated in a LIV Golf affiliated influencer event. In response, Phil Mickelson, a prominent figure who defected to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league, is publicly calling for the Department of Justice (DOJ) under Donald Trump to investigate the PGA Tour‘s actions.
Mickelson Accuses PGA Tour of Contract Law Violation
Mickelson, a high-profile player who joined the rival LIV Golf circuit, voiced his opinion on X (formerly Twitter). He questioned the legality of the PGA Tour‘s actions, stating, “Normally when an entity violates independent contract law, they deny that it happened and force the contractor/individual to prove that it did.”
He continued, “In this case the PGA Tour blatantly admits they are illegally banning an independent contractor so why doesn’t they [Department of Justice] step in and enforce the law?” Mickelson, who reportedly received $200 million in 2022 to join LIV Golf, further pressed, “Why does the individual have to sue to enforcer (sic) the law? DOJ do your fffing job!”
PGA Tour Remains Silent on Suspension
As of now, the PGA Tour has not officially commented on Bryan‘s suspension. Representatives for the PGA Tour have been contacted for confirmation and to address Mickelson’s social media posts.

The Doral Event Triggering the Suspension
The suspension appears to stem from Wesley Bryan‘s participation in “The Duels: Miami,” an event held at the Donald Trump-owned Doral golf course. This event featured six LIV Golf players alongside YouTube content creators. Participants were reportedly aware of potential disciplinary actions from the PGA Tour due to their involvement in the event, especially amidst ongoing merger discussions between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.
According to Monday Q, while all participants knowingly risked repercussions, Wesley Bryan was the only individual suspended the day after “The Duels” was released online.
Bryan’s Current Schedule Unaffected by Ban
Bryan, age 35, is present at the Corales Puntacana Championship in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic this week, though not competing. He finished as runner-up at this event last year to Billy Horschel. This tournament is scheduled opposite the RBC Heritage, a tournament Bryan won in 2017, marking his sole PGA Tour victory.
“We had this vacation planned for months, so I decided we would still come down,” Bryan stated to MondayQ.com, highlighting a pre-existing family vacation plan.
Bryan’s PGA Tour Status and Performance
Bryan currently lacks full PGA Tour status. In 2025, he participated in three events, missing the cut in two and achieving a tie for 25th at the Farmers Insurance Open in January. He currently ranks 169th in the FedExCup standings.

Bryan’s Perspective on YouTube and PGA Tour Career
Bryan expressed no regrets about his participation in “The Duels,” describing the video as “one of the most powerful videos in YouTube golf,” emphasizing his commitment to supporting content creator Grant Horvat and expanding golf’s reach through YouTube.
He also conveyed thankfulness for his PGA Tour career, stating, “For the last eight or nine years, the opportunities have been amazing. I’m extremely grateful to the Tour for that. I don’t want this to be the end of my professional golf career.”
Bryan’s PGA Tour Career Statistics
Throughout his PGA Tour career, Bryan has made the cut in 68 of 134 events, securing five top-five finishes and nine top-10 finishes.

PGA Tour-PIF Negotiations and Senate Report
Negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) have been ongoing. Recent reports indicate limited progress despite meetings with Donald Trump. The PGA Tour has also secured additional funding through PGA Tour Enterprises.
A U.S. Senate report suggests the PIF’s engagement in merger talks was partially motivated by the threat of discovery in an antitrust lawsuit filed against them.
The Senate subcommittee’s report detailed findings from an inquiry into the proposed “framework agreement” for a merger between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and PIF’s golf assets, including LIV Golf.
Senate Concerns over Saudi Influence
Senator Richard Blumenthal raised concerns about Saudi Arabia’s influence and potential control over a prominent American institution. The subcommittee’s investigation revealed initial discussions for a potential agreement began in April 2023, coinciding with a ruling that subjected PIF and its Governor to discovery in the antitrust litigation.
Senator Blumenthal highlighted potential vulnerabilities in U.S. defenses against foreign influence and loopholes in the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).
