A seismic event rattled regions of Spain, with noticeable tremors felt by both visitors and residents in the popular Costa Blanca vacation destination. The earthquake, striking shortly after midnight, alarmed individuals in Torrevieja, a frequented resort town, during the Easter holiday period.
Residents and Tourists Describe Intense Shaking
Numerous residents and British tourists vacationing in Torrevieja during the Easter break reported being jolted awake as the ground trembled. One British expatriate residing in the Los Balcones area, located south of Alicante, recounted being awakened by the seismic activity.
“It was quite an experience. Our entire dwelling was shaking. I found it difficult to return to sleep, anticipating further tremors,” he shared on social media platforms. “This was the most intense and loudest tremor I’ve encountered thus far.”
Another local resident characterized the tremor as “the strongest earthquake I have ever experienced,” according to reports from Spanish Eye news outlet.

Local Reactions to the Seismic Activity
Matias Web, a local resident, commented on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that while he is accustomed to such occurrences, the recent earthquake generated “a very pronounced sound, akin to rocks fracturing deep beneath the surface.”
“We were likely very close to the earthquake’s point of origin,” he speculated.
Reactions from other social media users in Spain varied, with one individual exclaiming, “My whole house shook!”, while another simply conveyed, “I’m terrified.”
From Orihuela Costa, another report stated, “There was considerable sound and vibration.”
One person offered a more detailed description: “It was quite noticeable, brief yet powerful.”
A Torrevieja resident added, “Well, an earthquake just roused me from sleep here in Torrevieja… A truly unsettling sensation. I am quite shaken.”
On a Facebook forum, a British individual in the affected zone labeled the event a “significant earthquake,” with another corroborating, “It was also notably loud.”
