Gloria Hunniford’s Backstage Incident on Celebrity Bake Off
Television personality Gloria Hunniford experienced a significant fall behind the scenes during the filming of Celebrity Bake Off last year, preventing her from completing the program and showcasing her anticipated four-layer chocolate cake to the judges. Unfinished Bake and Hospital Visit
Caron was only 41 years old when she died. Gloria also intended to pay tribute to her late mother by presenting her cherished, decades-old cake recipe on the show. She recently described the upsetting accident that stopped her from presenting her treasured creation to the judging panel, which included Alison Hammond and Paul Hollywood. “I had an unfortunate incident at the end of filming, which meant I couldn’t finish,” she explained to a news outlet, confirming she was promptly taken to hospital for medical evaluation due to concerns about her well-being.
Competition and Cake Creation
Initially, Gloria competed alongside personalities such as Kate Garraway from Good Morning Britain and Capital FM’s Roman Kemp, son of musician Martin Kemp.
Ultimately, she was unable to complete the competition; however, some footage was filmed before the mishap, and she remains proud of the impressive “dice cake” she had prepared to unveil.
“I believed it looked quite good! Personally, I thought it was amazing, especially considering my limited baking experience,” she stated regarding the four-layer chocolate cake, enhanced with golden syrup and vanilla essence.

Gloria admitted she doubted her chances of winning the entire competition, despite the encouraging comments from the judges after they assessed her bake in her absence.
Alison introduced the cake, clarifying that Gloria “wanted us to proceed regardless,” before adding, “It’s such a pity Gloria wasn’t feeling well enough to share the story.”
Paul remarked positively: “I appreciate the concept. The concept is being executed effectively.”
Dedication to Cancer Awareness
Gloria has consistently demonstrated her commitment to cancer charities, stating: “I am a strong advocate, not only for the program, which I admire, but also for Stand Up to Cancer… Sadly, not only did I lose my beloved daughter to cancer, but also last year I tragically lost my husband, Stephen. Cancer is a significant issue within our family.”
In a social media post prior to her appearance on the show on April 13th, she added: “My wonderful late mother was an exceptional baker, and she would have been astonished that I am participating in The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off.”
“Her baking talents didn’t exactly transfer to me – but I performed reasonably well (I think)! And of course, this is all in support of a cause that is very close to my heart.”
