Unconventional Self-Treats of Britons Revealed in New Survey
A recent study has unveiled the unique indulgence habits of Britons, ranging from enjoying ‘bad’ films and sipping from a cherished mug to consuming peanut butter directly from the container. The survey of 2,000 adults, focusing on self-treats and indulgence, indicated that individuals typically partake in these small pleasures approximately three times per week, with Friday emerging as the most favored day for personal pampering.
Common and Quirky Indulgences
Beyond the conventional, the research highlighted a variety of less typical self-treats embraced by Britons. These include refreshing bedding changes, savoring coffee before sleep, and relishing dessert for breakfast. Interestingly, a significant portion, a quarter of those surveyed, feel they do not treat themselves sufficiently.

Desire for Increased Self-Indulgence
Among those desiring more frequent self-indulgence, a considerable 43% are planning to actively pursue this change. Furthermore, evidence suggests a shift in behavior, with 18% of respondents already reporting an increase in their frequency of self-treats over the past year.
Chocolate Martini Glasses Promote Treat Culture
The study was commissioned by Kahlua, who have collaborated with Tony’s Chocolonely to launch an innovative promotional campaign. Brand Spokesperson Highlights Importance of Small Pleasures
Craig van Niekerk, a representative for the coffee liqueur brand, emphasized the significance of regular self-treats, regardless of the day. Echoing the survey findings, he stated, “It’s important to treat oneself – no matter what day of the week. As the research shows it’s possible to do just that in the smallest of ways – it doesn’t need to be a grand gesture. But it is fun to push the boat occasionally and really indulge yourself.” Kahlua has also introduced an Espresso MarTony cocktail, available at Dirty Martini locations nationwide for one month starting Thursday, April 17.

Adding to the picture of varied indulgence habits, other unusual examples included ordering food to the workplace, drinking hot chocolate during warmer months, and consuming a whole container of ice cream in one sitting.
No Such Thing as Too Much?
An intriguing finding from the survey is that almost half of the participants, precisely 49%, believe that it is virtually impossible to overindulge oneself, highlighting a permissive attitude towards self-treats among Britons.
