Teenage Car Thieves in Australia Thwarted by Unique Bus-Only Track After Mustang Heist

A Ford Mustang, a popular American muscle car, was recently stolen in Adelaide, Australia, leading to an unusual incident involving a specialized bus-only roadway. In a bizarre turn of events, the teenage suspects found themselves stranded on the O-Bahn, a distinctive transit system, after attempting to use it as a getaway route following the alleged theft of the vehicle.

The O-Bahn Explained

Adelaide’s O-Bahn is no ordinary road; it’s a guided busway system utilizing concrete tracks resembling train lines. This infrastructure is specifically designed to deter standard vehicles, enabling buses to ensure swift commutes between the city center and suburban areas.

Buses operating on the O-Bahn are equipped with a guide wheel that engages with the concrete curbs, effectively steering the vehicle. This system allows drivers to maintain consistent speeds, streamlining public transportation and bypassing congested surface streets.

It is believed the teenagers mistakenly thought the O-Bahn would provide an ideal escape route after allegedly stealing the 2016 Mustang from its owner’s residence. Following a police pursuit and the establishment of roadblocks, the driver of the stolen American muscle car made an unexpected maneuver, entering the bus-only track.
