Easy Tips to Spider-Proof Your Home Naturally

Are spiders unwelcome guests in your home? Many people experience the nuisance of spiderwebs and the sudden appearance of these eight-legged creatures. If you’re looking for effective ways to spider-proof your residence, a cleaning expert has revealed three simple methods to repel spiders and maintain a pest-free environment. These natural and easy-to-implement techniques can help keep your home spider-free using common household items.

Effective Strategies to Deter Spiders

Anna Louisa, a home cleaning and organization expert, shared her top three tips for keeping spiders at bay in a popular video on social media. Her advice focuses on using scents that spiders naturally dislike to create a barrier around your home.

1. Peppermint Oil and Water Spray for Windows and Doors

Anna’s primary method for spider-proofing your home involves creating a simple spray using peppermint oil and water. She recommends mixing five to ten drops of peppermint or tea tree essential oil with 240ml (one cup) of water in a spray bottle.

Apply this natural solution around your windows and doorways. According to the cleaning expert, spiders are averse to the strong aromas of both peppermint and tea tree oil, making it an effective spider repellent.

2. Cinnamon Sticks as a Natural Spider Deterrent

In her online video, Anna explains that cinnamon is another scent spiders find unappealing. She suggests strategically placing cinnamon sticks around your home to discourage spiders from entering. As an example, she places a cinnamon stick on her nightstand to prevent spiders in her bedroom area.

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

For homes with older children, Anna suggests conkers as an alternative to cinnamon sticks, claiming they produce a similar effect in deterring spiders. However, she cautions against using conkers if you have toddlers or small children due to potential choking hazards.

3. Orange Oil in Your Mop Water to Repel Spiders and Insects

Anna’s final tip involves incorporating orange oil into your floor cleaning routine. By adding orange oil to your mop water, you can repel not only spiders but also other unwanted insects from your home. She advises adding the recommended amount of orange oil to your mop bucket, along with a small amount of dish soap.

Using a spray mop, Anna adds 15 to 20 drops of orange oil to her cleaning solution. She explains that the scent, while less intense than peppermint or tea tree oil, is still disliked by spiders and insects, making it suitable for treating larger areas like floors for effective pest control.

In her social media post, Anna summarized these methods as “3 ways to keep spiders (and other insects) out of our homes!” She notes that spiders seek warmth and shelter indoors, which explains their year-round presence. These tips offer an easy and pleasant-smelling way to encourage them to “go elsewhere” while leaving your home smelling “amazing.”

Echoing Anna’s advice, home maintenance experts also recommend essential oils like peppermint, tea tree, and eucalyptus to deter spiders. They further suggest utilizing conkers or citrus peels in corners and on windowsills, as spiders are known to dislike these scents and are likely to avoid areas where they are present.

Maintaining a clean home through regular vacuuming and dusting is also crucial to remove existing spiderwebs and egg sacs. Additionally, sealing potential entry points such as cracks in walls, doors, and windows can further minimize spider intrusion into your home, contributing to overall spider prevention and pest control.
