Mickey Rourke Removed from Celebrity Big Brother UK After Controversy

British broadcast network ITV reports that actor Mickey Rourke was ejected from the “Celebrity Big Brother UK” house on Saturday due to his use of ‘inappropriate language and instances of unacceptable behaviour‘.

The 72-year-old’s departure occurred approximately one week into the show’s 24th season, shortly after he directed remarks at fellow housemate and singer JoJo Siwa that she deemed homophobic.

Controversial Remarks Toward JoJo Siwa

Initial Exchange on Sexuality

During Wednesday’s episode, Rourke questioned Siwa about her sexual orientation, asking if she preferred girls or boys. Upon Siwa stating her preference for girls and her current relationship, Rourke insinuated he could alter her sexual identity.

“Tie You Up” Comment

Rourke further stated, “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay anymore.” Siwa responded, “I can guarantee I will still be gay and I will still be in a very happy relationship.” Rourke then made a subsequent comment to the 21-year-old, stating, “I’ll tie you up.”

“Vote the Lesbian Out” Remark and Aftermath

Later, in conversation with other housemates, Rourke was overheard saying he would “vote the lesbian out real quick,” referring to Siwa. Siwa responded, “That’s homophobic,” after overhearing the remark.

Response and Formal Warning

Television presenter Chris Hughes defended Siwa, telling Rourke, “You can’t say that” and comforting her as she became emotional. Subsequently, Rourke was called into the ‘diary room’ and received a formal warning from ‘Big Brother’ for his remarks, being told his language was “offensive and unacceptable”.

Departure from Celebrity Big Brother House

Further Incident and Disagreement with Chris Hughes

Siwa nominated Rourke for the show’s first eviction on Friday. However, according to an ITV spokesperson, Rourke’s “language and behavior” continued on Saturday during a disagreement with Hughes during a house task.

Threatening Behavior and Network Decision

Although no physical altercation occurred, ITV informed NBC News that Rourke’s conduct toward Hughes was considered threatening and aggressive. The network did not elaborate on the specifics of the disagreement.

Official Statement and Exit

In an official statement released Saturday, the spokesperson stated, “Mickey Rourke has agreed to leave the Celebrity Big Brother House this evening following a discussion with Big Brother regarding further use of inappropriate language and instances of unacceptable behaviour.”

Show Information

Representatives for Rourke did not immediately provide comment. “Celebrity Big Brother UK” Season 24 premiered on Monday and is scheduled to conclude on April 25.
