Gout Gout Astounds at Australian Athletics Championships Despite Wind-Assisted Sprint
Perth, Australia β Australian track sensation Gout Gout delivered an electrifying performance at the Australian Athletics Championships, clocking a breathtaking 19.84 seconds in the 200m sprint. Although aided by an illegal tailwind, this run further solidifies Gout’s status as a rising star in global athletics.
Kennedy’s Disqualification Paves Way for Gout’s Stellar 200m
The highly anticipated 200m face-off between Gout and Lachie Kennedy was a major draw at the Australian Athletics Championships in Perth on Sunday. However, the final took an unexpected turn when Kennedy was disqualified due to a false start, shifting the spotlight entirely onto the 17-year-old Gout.
Gout seized the moment, exhibiting exceptional speed to secure victory in 19.84 seconds. Aidan Murphy finished second, trailing significantly behind at 20.40 seconds.
Following his run, Gout celebrated enthusiastically. However, his elation was followed by a tense period as officials checked the wind speed, crucial for record ratification.
The wind reading unfortunately registered 2.2m/s, exceeding the legal limit of 2m/s. Consequently, Gout’s time will not be recognized as an official record.

Fastest Australian 200m Ever, Wind-Assisted or Not
Despite the tailwind infringement, Gout’s 200m time remains the fastest ever recorded by an Australian athlete, regardless of wind assistance. This remarkable feat is expected to further elevate his international recognition within the world of sprinting.
In a commendable display of sportsmanship, Kennedy approached Gout post-race to offer a congratulatory embrace.

Kennedy’s Earlier Victory and 100m Ambitions
Prior to the championships, Kennedy had bested his younger competitor at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne, clocking 20.26 seconds to Gout’s 20.66 seconds. Kennedy arrived in Perth aiming to break the elusive 10-second barrier in the 100m sprint.
He achieved a time of 10.00 seconds in his 100m heat, notably easing his pace before the finish line.
“I’m disappointed not to have cracked 10 seconds,” Kennedy commented. “But there will be plenty of opportunities in the future, so I’m not overly concerned.”
