Teddi Mellencamp Navigates Family Discussions About Will Amid Cancer Battle

Teddi Mellencamp is navigating difficult discussions with her family as she confronts her cancer diagnosis. These conversations include discussions with her father, the celebrated singer John Mellencamp, regarding her will.

Teddi disclosed that John, aged 73, urgently contacted her, calling eleven times consecutively because of a pressing question.

Family Mausoleum Discussions

On the Tuesday, April 8th episode of her “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast with Tamra Judge, Teddi, age 43, recounted her father’s insistent inquiry. “Finally, I answered, and I said, ‘I’m in the bath. Let me have a moment’,” she shared. “He stated, ‘I just want to confirm you will be placed in our family mausoleum’.”

Teddi responded by raising concerns about space for her children within the mausoleum. She shares children—Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5—with her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave. Arroyave also has an older daughter, Isabella, from a previous relationship.

John Mellencamp’s Mausoleum Plan

John Mellencamp reportedly appeared prepared to include Teddi and her children in the family mausoleum located in Indiana.

According to Teddi, John elaborated on the mausoleum’s structure, saying, “Well, there will be the top five, and then we’re going to have smaller sections around it, and that’s where everyone will be laid to rest.”

He further advised, “You’re currently working on your will, so you might as well include it there.”

Teddi eventually concurred and added, “I’m going to have to discuss this with my sister next week. The children will be right after me.”

Celebrating Treatment Milestones

Teddi’s dark humor comes shortly after she commemorated a significant point in her cancer treatment: the completion of her final radiation session. On Thursday, April 3rd, she marked this achievement by ringing a ceremonial bell at the hospital.

Final Radiation and Immunotherapy Ahead

She shared a video of the moment on her Instagram Story, showing her reading from a plaque beneath the bell and ringing it three times, followed by celebrations with friends off-camera.

“Ringing the bell represents a major treatment phase—today marked my last day of radiation,” she wrote in the video caption. “Five more rounds of immunotherapy are ahead. Thank you all for the kind messages.”

Brain Tumor Diagnosis and Ongoing Battle

Mellencamp initially disclosed in February that she was undergoing treatment for multiple brain tumors. She had surgery and has since been undergoing radiation treatment. In late March, doctors discovered four additional tumors on her brain.

“Fighting for My Life”

“I am battling for my life,” she stated exclusively to Us Weekly, “but also for my family’s life and all the people I cherish.”

Challenges and Family Impact

“This is undoubtedly the most challenging experience I have encountered in my life, though it now feels somewhat less daunting,” she added. “During my time in the ICU, it was extremely challenging because I suffered memory loss. I recall recognizing one day that it was my daughter’s birthday, and I was unable to be there for it; that was truly upsetting. It remains upsetting when I am unable to be present for my children in the way I typically would be.”
