Recent Maritime Incident Follows Previous Ship Collision off Humber Estuary
A new maritime accident involving the vessel Victoria L has occurred in the Humber Estuary area, less than a month after a prior ship collision on March 10th. In the earlier incident, the Portuguese-registered container ship Solong impacted the US tanker Stena Immaculate, prompting significant concern within the maritime community.
Details of the Recent Incident
The accident, taking place off the coast of the Humber Estuary, resulted in substantial fires erupting on both vessels and immediately raised environmental concerns. Following the crash, a large-scale rescue operation was launched.
Tragically, one individual, identified as Filipino national Mark Pernia, remains missing in the aftermath of the incident. However, in a positive development, 36 other individuals were successfully rescued from the affected vessels.
Legal Proceedings Following Previous Collision
In relation to the earlier collision involving the Solong and the Stena Immaculate, legal proceedings are underway. Vladimir Motin, 59, the captain of the Solong and a resident of St Petersburg, Russia, has appeared in court.
Motin faced charges of gross negligence manslaughter at Hull Magistrates’ Court and subsequently at the Old Bailey. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to stand trial in January 2026.
