Investment Boost for Brinc Drones
Brinc Drones, established in 2017 and backed by early-stage investors including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has recently declared a successful $75 million funding round. The investment was spearheaded by Index Ventures.
This latest infusion of capital elevates the startup’s total funding to $157.2 million. While Brinc has not publicly disclosed its current valuation, CEO Blake Resnick indicated to TechCrunch that this round represents an “up-round” compared to their previous $55 million Series B funding in 2022. Reports from Bloomberg in 2023 placed Brinc’s valuation at $300 million.
Domestic Manufacturing Trend in Drone Industry
Brinc Drones specializes in providing diverse drone systems to law enforcement and public safety organizations. The company’s growth aligns with a rising trend among U.S. drone technology startups focusing on domestic production. This shift is partly driven by increasing limitations imposed on Chinese firms that currently dominate the commercial drone market. Notably, prior to founding Brinc, Resnick held a brief internship with DJI, a leading Chinese drone manufacturer.
Motorola Solutions Partnership
Leveraging the new funding, Brinc Drones is embarking on a “strategic alliance” with Motorola Solutions, who also participated as an investor in this funding round. Motorola Solutions, a prominent entity in the U.S. security industry, provides software solutions for numerous 911 call centers. This collaboration will facilitate the integration of Brinc drones into these centers, enabling operators to deploy drones for specific emergency response situations, subject to clearance by Motorola’s existing AI-driven systems.
