Tragedy at Axe Ceremonia Music Festival in Mexico City

Family members and friends have paid tribute to two photographers who tragically died in an accident at the Axe Ceremonia music festival in Mexico City. The incident occurred over the weekend, casting a pall over the event.

Photographers Killed in Structure Collapse

The photographers were covering the Axe Ceremonia festival when a decorative structure collapsed on them on Saturday, resulting in their deaths. The victims have been identified as Berenice Giles, 28, and Miguel Hernandez, 26.

Officials Investigate Incident and Safety Procedures

Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum has acknowledged the event as an accident but stressed that there should be no impunity. Speaking at a news conference, she stated, “We must examine how the fallen equipment was installed.”

Reports indicate that a crane was maneuvering the decorative structure when it crashed to the ground. The accident occurred on Saturday evening; however, the music festival continued until midnight before finally being suspended.

Festival Discontinued After Safety Inspection

The music festival had been scheduled to continue on Sunday with performances by artists including rapper Tyler, The Creator, and British band Massive Attack. Officials in Miguel-Hidalgo, the Mexico City borough hosting the music festival, indicated that the collapsed structure had been installed after a concluding safety inspection.
