Grand National Horse Celebre D’Allen Collapses Post-Race; Jockey Nolan Faces Suspension

The 2025 Grand National at Aintree Racecourse witnessed both triumphs and tribulations, with concerns arising after Celebre D’Allen, a participant in the prestigious horse race, collapsed at the event’s conclusion. Compounding matters, jockey Michael Nolan has been handed a 10-day suspension following a stewards’ inquiry into his riding during the race. Recent footage has emerged, providing insights into the horse’s condition after the demanding steeplechase.

Celebre D’Allen’s Grand National Experience

Celebre D’Allen, entering the Grand National as a 125/1 longshot, suffered a collapse on the Aintree track, sparking immediate concern. The Philip Hobbs and Johnson White-trained gelding had initially performed strongly but began to show signs of fatigue in the race’s later stages. Despite exhibiting signs of distress after the second-to-last fence, jockey Micheal Nolan continued to ride the horse, eventually pulling him up after the final jump.

Immediate Veterinary Assistance and Jockey Inquiry

The collapse necessitated prompt veterinary intervention at the racecourse. Subsequently, Celebre D’Allen was able to walk into a horse ambulance for further evaluation and care.

Following the race, a stewards’ inquiry was conducted. The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) determined that Nolan had violated racing regulations by persisting with a horse that was visibly struggling and ‘had no more to give’.

Positive Update on Horse’s Condition

In a positive turn of events, Sunday brought encouraging news regarding Celebre D’Allen’s well-being. Social media updates depicted the gelding appearing well and in good spirits.

Trainer’s Statement and Jockey’s Suspension Details

Hobbs and White’s official X account shared a video of Celebre D’Allen, stating: “Celebre D’Allen bright and breezy this morning @AintreeRaces after running so well in the Grand National.”

Being the most senior horse in the Grand National field at age 13, the handling of Celebre D’Allen led to jockey Micheal Nolan receiving a 10-day suspension from the racecourse stewards.

Stewards’ Inquiry Findings

The official statement regarding the incident elaborated: “An inquiry was convened to assess whether Micheal Nolan, the jockey of CELEBRE D’ALLEN (FR), continued in the race when the horse displayed signs of having no further energy and was clearly losing ground following the second-last fence.”

“The jockey and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed, and recordings of the incident were examined. Consequently, the jockey was suspended for 10 days for breaching riding rules.”
