NBA Draft Prospect Cooper Flagg Expresses Dream to Join League as Duke Exits March Madness Tournament

Rising basketball star Cooper Flagg revealed his aspiration to participate in the NBA Draft just a day before Duke’s unexpected defeat against Houston in the March Madness tournament.

The Duke Blue Devils’ aspirations for a championship concluded with their loss to the Houston Cougars on Saturday night. The defeat prevented them from advancing to Monday’s final game after they surrendered a significant 14-point advantage in the second half.

Flagg, anticipated to be the top selection in this year’s NBA Draft, was unable to conclude his college basketball journey with a victory prior to his expected transition to professional basketball.

Prior to Duke’s stunning collapse in the Final Four, the prominent forward spoke about his potential entry into the NBA.

“It would be a true blessing to be drafted by any NBA team,” Flagg stated on Friday, according to basketball analyst Adam Zagoria.

“Playing in the NBA is my dream. I would be incredibly fortunate and honored to represent any team.”

Dejected Flagg Addresses Media After March Madness Loss

Following their March Madness elimination, a disappointed Flagg faced reporters during the postgame press conference.

The 18-year-old had an opportunity to become the hero in the final moments of Saturday’s game. However, his potential game-winning fadeaway jump shot fell short as Houston secured the win.

“That was the play the coach designed,” Flagg explained. “I drove into the lane, felt like I was balanced, and elevated for the shot. It just didn’t have enough distance. It’s a shot I’m prepared to take in that situation.”

“I focused on the basket and trusted my preparation.”

Controversial Foul Call and Fan Reaction

Flagg was also involved in a contentious foul call during the game’s final stages, which sparked outrage among Duke supporters.

However, Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, criticized the Blue Devils and their fanbase for attributing the loss to officiating.

“Duke fans complaining about that foul are acting like babies,” Portnoy posted on X, accompanied by a video clip of the debated foul. “You faltered. You couldn’t get the ball inbounds. You mishandled the ball.

“[Tyrese] Proctor attempted a hero play and missed a free throw. Numerous chances to secure the victory and you are blaming the referee? That’s the talk of losers, from losers.”
