Professional Bull Rider Dylan Grant Dies After Rodeo Injury in Texas

Tragedy struck the rodeo community as professional bull rider Dylan Grant passed away at the age of 24. He succumbed to injuries sustained during a rodeo event in Wharton, Texas, marking a somber moment for the sport.

Dylan Grant, a professional bull rider, tragically died on Thursday, April 3rd, just hours after competing at the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) confirmed his passing.

In a statement released on Friday, April 4th, the PRCA expressed their condolences: “The PRCA extends its deepest sympathies and prayers to the family and friends of bull rider Dylan Grant, and to the broader rodeo and bull riding community, following his untimely passing. Mr. Grant suffered injuries Thursday evening at the Wharton County event when he was bucked off a bull during the second round of competition.”

Following the incident where he was thrown from the bull, Dylan Grant was immediately transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, as confirmed by the PRCA.

A Rising Star in Rodeo

Dylan Grant secured his PRCA permit in May 2018 and subsequently obtained his PRCA card almost six years later. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous PRORODEO and Xtreme Bulls competitions. Prior to graduating in 2023, Grant was a valued member of the University of Wyoming rodeo team, achieving victory at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo in 2021 with the team.

University of Wyoming Remembers Grant

The University of Wyoming Rodeo Team released a statement expressing their sorrow. “The University of Wyoming Rodeo Team is devastated to learn of the passing of former student-athlete Dylan Grant, who tragically lost his life in a bull riding accident in Texas,” the statement read on Friday. “Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with Dylan’s parents, Wade and Tiffany, during this incredibly difficult time.”

Their Instagram post further elaborated, stating, “Dylan was a proud 2023 graduate, having earned his degree in Physical Education Teacher Education. Dylan was a champion both in life and within the arena. Once a Cowboy, Always a Cowboy.”

Rodeo Community Mourns Loss

Condolences from across the rodeo world have poured in following the news of Dylan Grant‘s passing. Sean Gleason, CEO of the PBR, shared a heartfelt statement: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic news of Dylan Grant’s death. This talented bull rider from Pavillion, Wyoming, passed away while competing at the Wharton County Youth Fair’s PRCA Xtreme Bulls event in Texas on Thursday evening. Dylan was an exceptional athlete – a state champion from Jackson Hole High School and a distinguished alumnus of the University of Wyoming – but more importantly, he will be remembered for his kindness, empathy, and generous spirit. He touched the lives of all who knew him.”

Gleason concluded, “Our deepest sympathies and condolences are extended to his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know Dylan.”
