Teenager Faces Murder Charges in Fatal Stabbing at Frisco Track Meet
A 17-year-old, identified as Karmelo Anthony, has been detained and charged with murder following the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a high school football player. The incident occurred at a track and field meet in Frisco, Texas, and Metcalf reportedly died in his twin brother’s arms. In the wake of the arrest, Anthony’s defense attorney has stated his intention to request a reduced bond of $1 million, and indicated his client is claiming self-defense in the deadly encounter.
Self-Defense Claim in High School Stabbing
Deric Walpole, Anthony’s legal representative, addressed the media outside the Collin County Jail in McKinney, Texas. Speaking to a local NBC affiliate KXAS-TV, Walpole revealed that Anthony alleges the stabbing was an act of self-preservation.
“I am aware that my client has asserted self-defense. At this juncture, I have no basis to doubt his account, but further investigation is essential to ascertain the facts, gather testimonies, and fully comprehend the circumstances,” Walpole stated. He added, “Currently, there is no indication to suggest that it was not self-defense.”
Walpole mentioned that his initial consultation with Anthony was brief, but he confirmed plans to petition for a bond hearing in the upcoming week.

Track Meet Altercation Leads to Tragedy
Reports indicate the confrontation between the two teenagers stemmed from a dispute over seating arrangements. According to an arrest affidavit, Metcalf informed Anthony that he was seated in the incorrect team’s designated area.
Upon being asked to relocate, Anthony allegedly responded by reaching into his bag and issuing a threat to Metcalf, stating, “Touch me and see what happens.”
Subsequently, Metcalf physically attempted to move Anthony, at which point Anthony purportedly brandished a knife and stabbed Metcalf in the chest.
The arrest report further alleges that Anthony fled the scene post-stabbing. He reportedly informed a school resource officer that he acted in ‘self-protection’ because Metcalf had ‘put his hands’ on him.
