Video Footage Challenges Israel’s Account of Ambulance Convoy Incident

Newly surfaced mobile phone video footage appears to cast doubt on the Israeli military’s explanation for why soldiers opened fire on a convoy of ambulances and a fire truck on March 23, resulting in the deaths of 15 rescue workers. The incident and conflicting accounts have drawn international attention and scrutiny.

Video Evidence Emerges from Paramedic’s Phone

The video, released by the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), was reportedly recovered from the mobile phone of a paramedic killed in the attack. The PRCS maintains the footage provides crucial evidence contradicting the official Israeli narrative of the event.

Footage Shows Vehicles with Lights Activated

The recording depicts the emergency vehicles traveling in darkness, clearly displaying both headlights and emergency flashing lights, moments before they were targeted by gunfire. This visual evidence directly challenges the initial Israeli statement regarding the vehicles’ visibility.

IDF’s Initial Statement on the Ambulance Convoy Shooting

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had initially stated that “several uncoordinated vehicles were spotted advancing suspiciously towards IDF troops without headlights or emergency signals. IDF troops then engaged the suspected vehicles.” This account suggested the emergency vehicles were unmarked and posed a potential threat.

Survivor Testimony Supports Video Evidence

Adding to the discrepancy, a paramedic who survived the incident previously stated to the BBC that the ambulances were distinctly marked as emergency vehicles and had both internal and external lights illuminated. This firsthand account further contradicts the IDF’s initial explanation.

IDF Vows to Examine New Documentation

In response to the emergence of the video footage, the IDF issued a statement to the BBC indicating that, “All assertions, including the circulating documentation concerning the incident, will be thoroughly and deeply investigated to ascertain the sequence of events and the handling of the situation.” This suggests a potential re-evaluation of the events of March 23rd.
