CNN airs breaking news announcement in blistering blow to Donald Trump

CNN aired a blistering take-down of US president Donald Trump with a breaking news announcement – interrupting regular broadcasting after Trump’s worldwide tariffs hit countries including the UK. The stock markets have spiralled into a “historic” low, with many global markets recording their worst week since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has headed off to play golf – something he slammed the Democrats for doing before him. In a blistering montage aired on CNN, a compilation of Trump’s attacks on those going off to play the sport instead of dealing with matters at the White House was shown to highlight his own hypocrisy.

In the video, Trump could be heard saying: “Obama, it was reported today, played 250 rounds of golf… Everything is executive order, because he doesn’t have enough time because he’s playing so much golf… Obama ought to get off the golf course and get down there… I’m going to be working for you, I’m not going to have time to go play golf!”

Obama was accused of “playing more golf than Tiger Woods”, before Trump said: “I love golf, I think it’s one of the greats, but I don’t have time… If I were in the White House, I don’t think I’d ever see Turnberry again, I don’t think I’d ever see Doral again.”

But as the stock market plummets, Trump headed to one of his Florida golf courses and was spotted in a golf cart wearing a MAGA hat. He participated in a LIV Dinner for the LIV Golf Tour on Thursday at his Trump Doral club, and was seen with clubs on the green – and it hasn’t sat well with voters.

One tweeted: “Recession fears are rising. The stock market is tanking. But don’t worry, Donald Trump is golfing.” Another agreed: “He’s had a long, hard week of crashing the stock market and making virtually everything more expensive for middle class Americans. But at least he’s getting some time to unwind.”

Another fumed: “When the president announced new tariffs, he should’ve been back at the White House working, taking phone calls from other countries to try to make deals. Instead, he goes golfing while the stock market has the worst two days in history. Pathetic leadership.”
