In a video message posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday afternoon, Brand expressed gratitude towards his supporters and declared his intention to contest the claims in court.
“I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile,” he stated in the video.
“But what I never was, was a rapist. I have never engaged in non-consensual activity – I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”

These charges follow prior accusations of rape, sexual assaults, and emotional abuse made by several women. These initial allegations surfaced in a collaborative investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4 Dispatches in September 2023.
The Metropolitan Police formally charged Brand, who resides in Florida, via postal service and issued a summons for his court appearance.

“We have concluded that there is sufficient evidence to charge Russell Brand with offences including rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault, relating to reported non-recent incidents between 1999 and 2005, involving four women.”
Narwal noted Brand’s upcoming court date: “He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court for his initial hearing on Friday, May 2, 2025. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds the public that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant is entitled to a fair trial.”
She emphasized, “It is crucial to avoid any reporting, commentary, or online sharing of information that could potentially prejudice these proceedings.”

Prior to the charges, Brand attended a record release event for Christian worship singer Brandon Lake in Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday. He expressed admiration for Lake’s ability to balance entertainment and faith.
