US Commercial Paper Volume Shows Recent Increase

NEW YORK, April 3 (Reuters) – Data released by the Federal Reserve on Thursday indicated a rise in the volume of U.S. commercial paper for the week concluding April 2. According to the Fed, seasonally adjusted commercial paper outstanding in the United States experienced an uptick of $2.9 billion, reaching a total of $1.395 trillion in the most recent week.

Non-Seasonally Adjusted Commercial Paper Declines

The figures also revealed a decrease in non-seasonally adjusted commercial paper outstanding. This metric, considered by some market observers to be a more dependable indicator due to distortions potentially introduced by the financial crisis in seasonally adjusted data, contracted by $23 billion, settling at $1.327 trillion.

Foreign Financial Commercial Paper Also Decreases

In a related trend, the amount of non-seasonally adjusted foreign financial commercial paper outstanding in the U.S. also saw a reduction. This segment declined by $1.8 billion, falling to $383.8 billion.
