North Carolina Man Charged with Double Murder Following Prison Release

In Wilson, North Carolina, a 25-year-old man faces murder charges after allegedly killing his mother and teenage brother just days after his release from incarceration. Da’ron Jenkins was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the deaths of Dana Jenkins, 50, and 15-year-old Daryn Cox. The victims were discovered deceased at their residence in Wilson, approximately 40 miles east of Raleigh. This incident occurred six days after Jenkins was freed from prison, where he had served over five years for offenses including gun theft and vehicle burglary.

Details of the Incident

Last Tuesday, Da’ron Jenkins was released from custody after completing his sentence for prior convictions. His mother, Dana Jenkins, had expressed joy at his return home on social media. However, authorities were quickly called to the family residence in Wilson where they discovered the bodies of Dana Jenkins and Daryn Cox. Details regarding the cause of death are yet to be officially released by law enforcement, and a motive remains under investigation.

Eyewitness Account

A relative, Julia Kornegay, who resides nearby, provided a harrowing account to local news station CBS 17. According to Kornegay, both victims appeared to have suffered fatal stab wounds. She recounted seeing Jenkins around 3 a.m. on Monday, describing his demeanor as disturbed. She noted observable injuries on Jenkins, stating, “The look on his face told me he’d done something. His hand was cut up. And he had a bandage on his hand.”

Concerns Before the Arrest

Kornegay further indicated noticing troubling behavior in Jenkins after his release from prison. She expressed to CBS 17 a sense of foreboding, stating, “I’m hurt because I knew he was going to do something.” She described Jenkins as exhibiting restlessness and agitation, noting, “You can just see he was so fidgety. He was so anxious. He could not stay still. He had that sneakiness about him. Like a crazy person trying to get ready to do something, like premeditation.”

Legal Proceedings and Community Reaction

Da’ron Jenkins is currently detained at the Wilson County jail without bail. He attended his initial court hearing on Tuesday. The Mount Moriah Community Church, the family’s local church, mourned the loss of Dana Jenkins and Daryn Cox. Bishop Sherman Blandon conveyed the community’s sorrow to ABC 11, emphasizing the deep impact on those who knew them, especially the youth. “Especially Daryn — he meant the world to all of us. Our teens here, they’re there grieving heavily. My children, the adults here, they, the entire city, his colleagues at school, teachers. It’s just rough and unfortunate.”
