Rock Music’s Surprising New Home: The Kitchen, UK Survey Reveals

Move over bikes and bars; classic rock music is finding a fresh audience in an unexpected place: the kitchen. A recent study into UK music tastes, commissioned by rising rock band Violet Blend, indicates a significant resurgence in the genre’s popularity. Forget stadium headbanging, it seems fans are now more inclined to enjoy guitar riffs while preparing bolognaise. The research highlights that 84% of British adults regularly listen to classic rock icons such as Queen, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones. Notably, this revival is being driven by younger generations, with 81% of under-25s expressing their enjoyment of the genre.

Kitchens Rock: New Survey Data

The study challenges traditional stereotypes of rock music being confined to leather-clad bikers and dimly lit venues. Instead, the survey reveals the kitchen as the unlikely epicenter of rock appreciation. It appears rock provides the perfect soundtrack for Britons preparing meals. In a survey of 2,000 adults across the UK, participants were asked about their preferred situations for listening to rock music.

Regional Rock Hotspots and Age Demographics

Across the United Kingdom, 37% of adults stated they listen to rock while cooking. Men are slightly more inclined to embrace their ‘rock kitchen’ at 39%. The kitchen is also a key location for younger individuals to discover and appreciate rock music, with 31% of under 25s and 41% of 25 to 34 year olds enjoying the genre in this setting.

  • North East Leads Rock Popularity: The North East of England demonstrates the strongest affinity for rock music with 90% of residents enjoying the genre.
  • Kitchen Rock Hubs: Yorkshire (45%) and East Anglia (34%) stand out as regions where rock music frequently accompanies culinary activities.

Violet Blend’s Perspective on UK Rock Revival

Giada Celeste Chelli, lead vocalist and songwriter for Italian band Violet Blend, commented on the research findings. “The UK represents an exciting and relatively new market for us. Prior to our UK tour in May, we commissioned research from a leading UK firm to gain insights into how people engage with rock music, a genre we are passionate about.”

“The results confirm the UK’s enduring status as a home for rock. The vast majority of the population loves it, and a new generation is embracing it. Interestingly, the kitchen has emerged as a central point of connection. Rock music’s uplifting and inspiring nature makes it ideal for kitchen creativity, family gatherings, and socialising with friends. The kitchen is a space for connection, creativity and shared experiences, and rock music, with its anthems and powerful energy, complements this perfectly by inspiring and uniting people.”

Rock, Food, and Wellbeing

“For Italians, food is intrinsically linked to our culture, much like rock music is to the UK. During our upcoming UK visit, we plan to share special ‘rock recipe’ cards with our British fans, featuring rock-inspired spaghetti dishes, power ravioli, and summer treats from Ferruccio’s ice cream parlour in Florence.”

“The connection between rock and cooking also promotes a healthy lifestyle. With increasing emphasis on wellbeing within the rock music community, healthy eating plays a crucial role in supporting mental and physical health.”
