United Kingdom Set to Host 2035 Women’s World Cup

The United Kingdom is poised to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup after FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced their bid is currently unopposed. This development places the UK as the presumptive host for the prestigious international soccer tournament.

Path Clear for UK to Stage Tournament

In an address delivered at UEFA’s annual congress in Belgrade, Infantino affirmed that the UK has a clear pathway to staging the event. He also indicated that the United States, potentially in conjunction with other Concacaf member nations, is the sole candidate for the 2031 edition of the Women’s World Cup. FIFA plans to expand the tournament to 48 teams starting in 2031, mirroring the format of the men’s competition. Concacaf encompasses countries in North and Central America, along with the Caribbean region.

Confirmation of Bids

“I can confirm that we have received a single bid for 2031, and one valid bid for 2035,” Infantino informed delegates in Belgrade. “The 2031 bid originates from the USA and potentially other Concacaf nations. The 2035 bid is from Europe, specifically from the home nations.”

First World Cup in UK Since 1966

This news implies that, assuming the UK’s bid receives formal ratification at next year’s FIFA congress, the nation will experience its first major soccer World Cup since 1966. Earlier uncertainty surrounded a possible rival bid from Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. However, Infantino clarified that no such challenge would materialize, three days after the deadline for bid submissions passed.

Formal Bid Submission

The UK’s bid, initially announced in March, is required to be formally submitted by the end of November.
