Dramatic video footage has emerged depicting a daring rescue in Bangkok, Thailand, where a Korean man risked his life to cross a fractured sky walkway high above ground. Amid the tremors from a powerful earthquake, the man jumped across the damaged skybridge to reach his family members in another part of the trembling building.

Earthquake Shakes Bangkok

The courageous individual, identified as Kwon Young-jun, a 36-year-old resident of Thailand, undertook this perilous feat in the immediate aftermath of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.

The earthquake, centered approximately 600 miles away in Myanmar, caused significant tremors and widespread damage throughout the Thai capital of Bangkok. The seismic event resulted in substantial structural failures, notably including the complete collapse of a skyscraper that was under construction.

Perilous Leap of Faith

At the time of the seismic event, Mr. Kwon was reportedly exercising at a gymnasium located on the 52nd floor of one of the Park Origin Thonglor condominium complex’s three towers. This upscale residential development is situated in the heart of Bangkok.

Viral video footage circulating online vividly captures the moment the skybridge connecting the towers fractured and broke in half. The walkway, designed to link the buildings at a considerable height, was rendered impassable by the quake’s force.

Family’s Location Sparks Urgent Action

Mr. Kwon’s wife, known as Bowyuri, and their young daughter were inside their residence on the 30th floor of an adjacent tower within the same complex. Bowyuri recounted to local news outlets, “During the earthquake, my husband, Kwon, was in the gym on the 52nd floor of another building. When the tremors struck, he immediately sought to cross the skybridge to reach me and our daughter. This dramatic scene was captured on video.”

Young-jun’s wife and daughter were in their home on the 30th floor in a neighboring block.

Buildings Sway as Husband Braves Broken Bridge

The dramatic video clearly illustrates the buildings swaying violently as Mr. Kwon bravely jumped across the chasm in the fractured skybridge, driven by his concern for his family’s safety.

After ensuring his family’s well-being, Mr. Kwon reportedly descended over 40 floors, having learned that the building was under evacuation. He was subsequently reunited with his wife and daughter outside the premises, according to reports from a Singaporean news publication.
