Jones Retires After On-Court Incident
Jones required a wheelchair to leave the court. Tournament organizers later issued a confirmation of her withdrawal, announcing that her opponent, Julia Riera, would advance in the Bogota Open. At the time of the incident, Riera held the advantage, leading 6-2, 5-7, 5-3.
A statement released on the tournament’s social media channels conveyed: “Francesca Jones has withdrawn from her match against Julia Riera due to a physical issue at 6-2 5-7 5-3, resulting in the Argentinian’s advancement. We extend our wishes for a swift recovery to the British tennis player.”
Throughout the final set of her Colsanitas Cup match, Jones had appeared to be experiencing difficulties. In the ninth game, as she prepared to serve, she faltered and fell to the ground.
The 24-year-old remained on the court for several minutes before being assisted off in a wheelchair.

This incident marks a disappointing conclusion to Jones’ recent success, which included securing the W75 Vacaria title the previous week with a victory over Leolia Jeanjean in the final.

This alarming episode in Bogota represents the 19th retirement in Jones’ professional career. The world No. 129 also had to retire mid-match at the recent Merida Open.
Following her advancement to the second round of the Colsanitas Cup via Jones’ retirement, Julia Riera is now scheduled to compete against American player Iva Jovic.
Heather Watson Suffers Charleston Defeat
