According to the couple, the proposal took place in an unexpected locale: inside Jason’s car as they were departing Kylie’s parents’ residence. Jason explained his reasoning, stating he felt it would have been too conspicuous to excuse himself back into the house to speak with Kylie’s father privately beforehand. This led him to improvise a less conventional approach in a more private setting – their vehicle.
The ‘Bathroom Break’ Ruse
Instead of a classic romantic gesture, Jason opted for a decidedly less conventional tactic. “When we got in the car,” Jason admitted on the podcast, “I said, ‘Ky, I’m sorry but I gotta use the restroom.'” This statement was, in fact, a ruse, designed to give him a moment before presenting the engagement ring.
Kylie’s Initial Suspicion
Kylie, however, immediately sensed something was amiss when Jason returned shortly after his announcement. “He came back out and I said, ‘Jason, I know you didn’t just go in there to use the restroom, it usually takes you 20 minutes’,” Kylie recounted. Her suspicion was piqued by the brevity of his supposed bathroom break, indicating she was already attuned to Jason’s typical habits.
The Proposal and the Tears
Sensing his plan might be transparent, Jason decided to forgo further pretense and proceed directly with the proposal. “He said, ‘This isn’t the most romantic way to do this,'” Kylie recalled, noting that this very acknowledgment of lacking romance was her signal. Upon hearing these words, Kylie shared she “immediately started crying,” understanding the significance of the moment and accepting Jason’s proposal despite its unorthodox delivery.
