Jeremy Kyle Opens Up About Show Cancellation in Emotional Interview

Television personality Jeremy Kyle became visibly emotional while discussing the distressing circumstances surrounding the cancellation of The Jeremy Kyle Show. The daytime program faced immediate termination in May 2019 following the death of Steve Dymond, a 63-year-old guest, who died by suicide approximately a week after participating in filming. A subsequent inquest into Mr. Dymond’s death triggered a five-year inquiry to ascertain the facts.

Media Scrutiny and Emotional Toll

In the aftermath of Steve Dymond’s death becoming public knowledge, Kyle, now 59, faced intense media scrutiny, confining him to his residence. He was later exonerated from allegations that his actions or inactions contributed to the unfortunate event.

Kyle’s emotional state was evident as he recounted the period following the show’s cancellation in an interview with Kate Garraway, 57, on her program Life Stories, broadcast on Tuesday, April 1st. Garraway, the Good Morning Britain host, noted Kyle’s tearfulness during his reflection on the events.

Support System and Personal Impact

Kyle acknowledged the support he received, particularly from his wife, Denny, stating, “I’ve got great people who saved me… My thoughts were always, first and foremost, for Steve Dymond.” He conveyed his deep concern for the late guest, adding, “to get to a point where you would do that, it must be terrible.”

The presenter also voiced his dissatisfaction with the five-year silence imposed due to legal constraints. “You take a bashing and that’s fine,” he admitted, continuing, “You have to feel for his family… the family needed the truth and we needed the truth to be out there.”

Acceptance and Moving Forward

Kyle conceded he “understood entirely” the necessity for The Jeremy Kyle Show’s cancellation. “I completely get the people who were critics of the show. I accept it,” he stated, adding, “No bitterness, anger or resentment.”

At his lowest point, struggling to leave bed, Kyle credited his wife with urging him to seek medical help, resulting in a prescription for antidepressants.

Reflecting on the abrupt end of his program, Kyle remarked, “It makes you realise how utterly inconsistent and how something can go instantly… But at the end of the day, I’m at peace with that.”

Pride in the Show’s Positive Impact

When questioned about his pride in The Jeremy Kyle Show, he affirmed, “I’m proud of the people we helped… the ones who went to rehab.” Acknowledging the tragic circumstances, he said, “Sadly we know the ending is not what anybody would have wanted, but I spent five years not able to say that I’m proud of what it was.”
